MARATHON MIKE GAINS A NEW RECRUIT FOR NEXT YEAR’S RUN
Mike Wilde, 40, has fulfilled a cherished ambition by completing the London Marathon and raising thousands of pounds for his chosen charity.
Mike finished in 4 hours, 24 minutes, raising over £3,000 for the Stroke Association.
Mike experienced both elation and agony on the gruelling run, as thousands wilted in soaring temperatures. He struggled through groin pain and severe muscle cramp down both legs. “It was torture after the halfway mark, but the support of the crowds was phenomenal and the street-party atmosphere was incredibly uplifting,” he said.
Along with his wife Lucy and close family members who greeted him after the finish was Ken Adams, Mike’s fellow founding director at LIFE Build Solutions. He said: “I am so inspired by the courage and endurance shown by thousands of people like Mike that I have told our staff I would be entering myself next year, and invited other company volunteers to join in.”
As for Mike’s intentions: “If you’d asked me at the finishing line, I would have said Never Again, but looking back I feel I could have another go, as it was such a fantastic experience.”
