Construction begins on new Sir James Altham day care centre

LIFE Build is delighted to announce that construction has officially begun on the new Sir James Altham Day Care Centre for Hertfordshire County Council.

The new day care centre will provide a modern, purpose-built facility that enables Hertfordshire County Council to relocate its existing adult day service into a high-quality, flexible environment surrounded by attractive green space. Once complete, the Sir James Altham Day Care Centre will offer adults with learning and physical disabilities a welcoming, inclusive setting that promotes independence, wellbeing and meaningful social interaction.

Designed with accessibility and sensory wellbeing at its core, the new day care centre features a welcoming covered entrance, clear sightlines into the main activity space and thoughtfully planned layouts that create a calm and reassuring experience for service users from the moment they arrive.

At the heart of the development will be a bright, double-height activity hall beneath a pitched roof, creating a familiar and comfortable atmosphere. Two single-storey wings will frame a landscaped courtyard garden, allowing natural daylight to fill the building while providing safe, accessible outdoor spaces for activities and relaxation.

LIFE Build is proud to be delivering the Sir James Altham Day Care Centre in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council and the wider project team, led by LSI Architects, alongside Conisbee, SHEILS FLYNN, Press Starkey, BSP and WSP.

This new community facility reflects LIFE Build’s commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable buildings that make a lasting difference to local communities. Throughout the project, we will work closely with Hertfordshire County Council and our project partners to deliver a modern day care centre that supports adults with disabilities for many years to come.

We look forward to sharing progress as construction continues and celebrating the completion of another high-quality community building that will provide lasting benefits for Hertfordshire residents.
